Espiner starts the blame game: Wheelers Corner 18 31st March 2019.

Guyon Espiner, Morning Report Presenter wrote these words: [in italics]

We were promised a moment of truth and now it has arrived”.

He then goes on to justify his own strange remarks about NZ’s activists opposing John Key’s use of state surveillance agencies to spy on the bulk of the population.

In the heat of the 2014 election campaign, the super stars of the state surveillance protest movement converged on New Zealand - including Edward Snowden via video link from Russia - alleging the New Zealand government and its spy agencies were complicit in mass surveillance. Well they were!

The conspiracy, they claimed, stretched from the vested interests of Hollywood movie moguls to the faceless technocrats of the United States' National Security Agency. The victims of these dark forces reached from Kim Dotcom through to average Kiwis, whose every text and tweet was being hoovered up. Well maybe not every text and tweet, but we all know that Key just loved anything from the USA. look at the tax payers money he donated to the Clinton Foundation...did RNZ do a study of that arse kissing...I think not.

He then had the audacity to write:

The proof never arrived. The real moment of truth about our intelligence agencies came with the horror of 15 March in Christchurch: Our intelligence agencies failed. That is not an opinion or a comment on their performance.

How can it not be a comment on their performance! But big brave Guyon went on to say:

That is a fact. They failed to detect anything to alert us that a killer would take 50 lives.
A Royal Commission of enquiry will take time to get answers but the questions begin now.

He then proceeds to explain his concept of how the various spy agencies [SIS GCSB] acted while at the same time making excuses for their behaviour and the lack of success. He states that;

This article focuses on the Security Intelligence Service as they are the domestic spy agency and the front line of defence. Yes, there are big questions for the Government Communications Security Bureau (GCSB) too, but it largely deals with foreign signals intelligence and interception.
First, follow the money. Was the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) under-resourced? It seems a difficult case for the SIS to be crying poor. According to annual reports, in 2018 it got $82 million and spent $66m, in 2017 it got $61m and spent $57m, and in 2016 got $51m, and spent $50m.

Now the rest of his rant about the SIS you should take for what it is: a justification of the lack of operational ability of the SIS.

They had enough money to engage in work that doesn't appear to be core business, such as "space and high altitude activities". The 2018 annual report details NZSIS interest in the evolving space industry, spurred by Rocket Lab's launches from Mahia Peninsula. Yeah maybe or maybe not

But he fails to answer the question, “If they had spent less time in assisting the USA attack Kim Dotcom, and had ignored John Key’s arse kissing behaviour toward Hollywood and the continuing Israeli war crimes etc. So he does a quick jump to the year 2018: He goes on his merry way, of twisting truth to suit his real purpose:

In the year to June 2018, they did 24 assessments "on space related activities" analysing space payloads and "high altitude vehicles."
It might be time to come crashing back to earth with basic questions like: Were you looking in the right direction? It seems they were not.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and the Minister Responsible for the Intelligence Agencies Andrew Little insist the NZSIS had begun to focus on white supremacist groups although we've seen little to back this up. I agree...
RNZ has gone back through ten years of annual reports and found no mention of the white supremacist threat.

This is really interesting, did RNZ do any reporting of NZ white supremacists over this period? Now I think we’ve arrived at Mr Espiner’s real goal in producing his latest rant. A chance to blame the female leadership of firstly the present PM and the head of the SIS Rebecca Kitteridge, whom I don’t consider worthy or otherwise because she was simply used by Key after he moved the then Governor General to head the SIS and then sent off to London as a reward for stepping down as SIS boss to allow his best school mate to take over the top SIS job...oh dear me its fun to watch the rats depart the sinking ship...

On 20 February this year Rebecca Kitteridge, who has served five years as director of the NZSIS and has now been appointed to another three, made her opening statement to parliament's Intelligence and Security Committee. She described the security threat as "low" and said about 30 people were under surveillance.
SIS boss Rebecca Kitteridge

Photo: RNZ
Her section on "terrorism and violent extremism" focused almost entirely on Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), saying a "small but concerning number" of New Zealanders were engaged with its violent online content and radical ideology.
She expressed concern about Kiwis in Syria and the global threat of Al-Qaida. A vague reference to white supremacists made it only into her final line of the terrorism section, saying that "internationally the slow, but concerning rise of right wing extremism also continues".

In this last paragraph or two he makes some valid points but still can't bring himself to admit that his good mate John Key was the real manipulator of our SIS, GCSB etc...

The primary focus of the NZSIS is also underlined in its 2018 annual report which said "the majority of leads identified during 2017-18 were linked to ISIL".
If they were looking in the wrong direction, why? In the end the NZSIS, for all the enigma, is only as good as its people. It has 335 staff. They are overwhelming European. Just 6.5 percent Māori, 6.5 percent Asian, 2.6 percent Pasifika and two percent from the "Middle East, Latin America and Africa".

At last he shows his bias as does the SIS, its white middle class racist behaviour shows clearly in its make up which Espiner points out...at last...a victory for an obvious visable fact: its staff.

Diversity is not about political correctness, it's about diversity of perspective. If your agents are largely from one ethnic background, does that influence the perception of where the threat might come from? Well does it Guyon?

Ministerial accountability will also be a focus on the Royal Commission. It used to be that the prime minister was always responsible for intelligence agencies. This changed when John Key, bogged down by questions: here Guyon makes an excuse for Keys behaviour... about illegal spying by the GSCB, farmed it out to his Attorney General Chris Finlayson.

Ardern has followed suit, giving the job to Andrew Little. If a government's first job is to protect its citizens, then perhaps it's time to push this job back up to the ninth floor of the Beehive.

Here ends the lesson

BOMBER DIPLOMACY
Why Was USAF B-52 Given Permission To Do Wairarapa Air Show Flyover?

www.facebook.com/AotearoaABC

Anti-Bases Campaign (ABC) was alarmed to learn that the "star" of the February 2019 Wings Over Wairarapa air show was supposed to be a US Air Force B-52 Stratofortress bomber flying over Masterton (it became a no-show because it suffered operational problems in Australia, en route from its Guam base). ABC is Christchurch-based and we have had a US military transport base (Harewood) at our airport for more than 60 years. We are used to US military transport planes coming and going here, and for those planes to feature at open days at Christchurch Airport.

But a B-52 bomber is a whole different kettle of fish. Because it is synonymous with the systematic aerial destruction inflicted upon Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos during the Vietnam War, people may think that B-52s are historic relics, on a par with the various vintage warplanes that are flown at NZ air shows on a regular basis.

But not so – although B-52s date back to 1955, they have been in continuous use by the US Air Force ever since, and remain so today (they have been most recently used to bomb Syria).
To quote Wikipedia: “The USAF continues to rely on the B-52 because it remains an effective and economical heavy bomber in the absence of sophisticated air defences, particularly in the type of missions that have been conducted since the end of the Cold War against nations with limited defensive capabilities. The B-52 has also continued in service because there has been no reliable replacement”.

NZ has been out of the ANZUS Treaty for nearly 35 years (the Australia, New Zealand, US military treaty that was the foundation of all New Zealand’s defence and foreign policy from its inception in 1951 until the US, under President Ronald Reagan, kicked us out in 1986. It remains in force today, but only between the US and Australia).

Soft Power
So, what was this Masterton flyover all about? It’s aimed at softening up the New Zealand people to support further extending the military alliance with the US, but this time on home soil, rather than overseas. This is called “soft power”. It took until 2016 for the first US Navy warship to visit NZ since the 1980s’ “ANZUS row”. It was invited to Auckland to take part in the multinational celebrations to mark the 75th anniversary of the NZ Navy. It never actually got to Auckland, instead being diverted to the South Island to assist in the evacuation of people left stranded by the November 2016 Kaikoura earthquake (this was propaganda gold for the US military).

That warship visit was under the Key National government, which is not that surprising. But this (abortive) B-52 flyover was authorised by the Ardern Labour Coalition government. The US knows that it can keep on chipping away at NZ public opinion, aided and abetted by a sympathetic Government. The steady drip, drip, drip of soft power is intended to lead to the full resumption of “hard power” i.e. NZ as a fully functional, albeit, junior, US satellite once again (that is already the reality but it is not the perception that is peddled to the NZ people).
“In a statement, US Ambassador Scott Brown said thousands of people made plans based on being able to see the B-52. We know how disappointed they will be. We share that disappointment. We're gutted’, Brown said. ‘We've been in touch with the organisers and I personally called Defence Minister Ron Mark to convey our apologies and regret…”.

“The Wings over Wairarapa air show has established itself as a world class event and we were honoured to be invited. The US Embassy looks forward to future opportunities to collaborate with this great show" (Stuff, 23/2/19, “B-52 Debut At Wings Over Wairarapa Cancelled Due To Operational Issue”, Amber-Leigh Woolf, https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/110815155/b52-debut-at-wings-over-wairarapa-cancelled-due-to-operational-issue).  .
ABC sees this as a dangerous precedent, and not simply a day out for all the family to watch a big plane fly overhead. B-52s have no place in New Zealand (including our airspace).

Nor do any other US warplanes. We have written to the Prime Minister, with a couple of key questions: Why did the Government give permission for this to happen? Did the US Embassy satisfy the Government that this particular bomber was compliant with NZ's nuclear free law? We’ll keep you informed.
Murray Horton item ends here, I hope you enjoyed his vision and foresight as I did...

Read this to see the massive difference between NZ and US Wheelers Corner 16 24th March 2019

Over the past week New Zealand has undergone a wonderful transition from being simply a copy cat nation, that has over then past 30 / 40 years simply agreed with whatever we were told to agree with. Even when the path that we were heading down was leading in the opposite direction to that which we actually wanted to go:

A miss-direction that our commonsense clearly indicated, and our historical development had already expressed was the correct path. But instead we came under political attack from our so-called friends. The USA, UK and Australia, and our governments of both colours caved in.

Right wing governments of both the red and blue hue had and still were simply saying to the world powers 'Tell us how high to jump!

It took the inbuilt common sense of our youth to put us back on track in regard to the welfare of our planet and therefor the welfare of humanity...

And it took the stupidity of white anti-people male idiots whom loved guns and Donald Trump who then cowardly and gutlessly murdered 50 plus men women and children as they prayed to their god in their church...and as strange as it might sound there are some who consider this strange person a hero...for killing 50 plus people in the name of white racism...and a comic book mentality.

I agree with the PM and that we should never utter his despicable name...so I will not write his name!

Below are simply a few of the many thousands of good Kiwi citizens who are celebrating the Manawatu Festival of Cultures.

Being there and being a part of this growing sense of nationhood was a great privilege and joy. In my respectful view it was like a religious event, not that I am a religious person...but to me religion is most clearly represented by the practise of 'LOVE' and love is what I felt as I moved amongst the huge and massive crowd on this warm Saturday morning.

Of course the Festival offers entertainment and the picture below shows a wonderful group of young Asian people singing in their language the songs of their past and present nations... The words were not important but the emotion of togetherness and the expressed love were very moving indeed...

To all those backward thinkers who believe that unless these culture groups speak English so that we can understand what they are saying then their message is wasted...simply proves how ignorant some people can be...That's what makes this festival so successful...its diversity and its lack of conformity is what demonstrates its strength rather than any weakness. The words 'They are Us, and we are them" are so powerful at this time in our history. We might just be at the beginning of something massive in human terms...We shall see.

This past week has proven that love and understanding is so much more powerful than hate and ignorance

The Fesival of Culture is in so many respects a 'coming of age for New Zealand. For it indicates a movement toward a grown up state of affairs, Here are a few references to some wonderful reports on the past week: Check them out in your own time, and share with your friends and family.

'Outrageous. Unacceptable.': Indiana Teachers Shot 'Execution-Style' With Pellets in School Shooting Drill

"In New Zealand, they respond to a mass shooting by banning semi-automatics five days later. In America, we respond to near-daily mass shootings by...literally shooting teachers."
An ‘active shooter’ enters a classroom as ‘students’ take cover during ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Evacuate) training at the Harry S. Truman High School in Levittown, Pennsylvania, on November 3, 2015. (Photo: Jewel Samad/AFP/Getty Images)
As state and federal lawmakers fail to take meaningful action to confront America's gun violence epidemic, Indiana elementary school teachers were reportedly shot "execution-style" with plastic pellets in an active shooter drill led by law enforcement.
"Outrageous. Unacceptable. We don't have to live like this."
—Moms Demand Action
According to the Indianapolis Star, several teachers at a time "were asked by local law enforcement to kneel down against a classroom wall before being sprayed across their backs with plastic pellets without warning."
"They told us, 'This is what happens if you just cower and do nothing,'" a teacher who experienced the January drill told the Indy Star. "They shot all of us across our backs. I was hit four times. It hurt so bad."
Journalist David Klion contrasted Indiana's active shooter drill with New Zealand's rapid and decisive response to the Christchurch massacre:
During testimony before the state's Senate Education Committee this week, officials from the Indiana State Teachers Association (ISTA)—which is demanding an end to drills in which teachers are shot with projectiles of any kind—said educators were left with bruises and welts from the drill.
In some cases, according to the ISTA, the pellets drew blood.
Reacting with horror to Indiana teachers' testimony, gun control advocates characterized the state's active shooter drill as an "outrageous" example of what America's educators are being forced to accept as one school shooting after another takes place without any action from Congress.
"Active-shooter training has become a macabre ritual for educators in America's public school system," noted Rolling Stone's Tim Dickinson.
"We don't have to live like this," Moms Demand Action declared, calling for "sensible solutions to the gun violence crisis."
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) listed several concrete legislative step that could be taken to confront mass shootings "instead of training children, teachers, houses of faith, and concertgoers to prep for being shot":
Praising the swift action this week in New Zealand to ban assault rifles, Kris Brown, the president of the gun control advocacy group Brady, said Thursday it is now well past time for U.S. lawmakers to follow suit.
"We have an opportunity to pass common-sense legislation that will expand background checks, enact extreme risk laws, and ban assault weapons at home," Brown said. "We must do so immediately. We must make sure that no community feels the pain that Christchurch, Parkland, Las Vegas, Orlando, Sutherland Springs, Sandy Hook, and so many others have been through. We too must take action, not sides."

All Saints plays its part in the healing process...Wheeler Corner Special 14 17th March 2019

At 2.30 pm the All Saints Church Hall was packed tight with people awaiting outside in the entrance ways : People had come from all walks of life to show their respect for the people who had died or been injured in the despicable events that had taken place in Christchurch on Friday.

The service and its message was one of love Vs Hate.
Of togetherness Vs Separatism,

It was not Catholic or Anglican or Muslim in nature...it was an outpouring of disgust and horror at the behaviour of those who brought about the events of last Friday.

Blame is easy after an event such as the cold blooded murder of fifty to sixty human beings in the name of a right wing bunch of fanatics spurned on by the supporting behaviour of semi dictators who have been elected [in a fashion] and their deranged supporters.

The mass murder will be without doubt praised by the KKK and their supporters who normally hide their faces behind masks and burning crosses. As they go about their business of lynching black Americans Jew hating and Arab hating, knowing that the local police for the most part won’t take any strong or real attempt to arrest them.

After all their President suggests that there are GOOD guys amongst the KKK racist types.

Still this is not the time to state the obvious such as ‘When whites with power fail to get their own way, other people have to die”, if they just happen to be Muslims, hard luck.

Well so says Donald Trump and his war mongering mates: Can you name these three trusty mates of Trumps, two have been found guilty of war crimes, one of which loves killing ARABS, and the third is a born again nutcase acting as the VPOTUS: And we are meant to believe that the US President feels sorry for the Muslims murdered in Christchurch of Friday. Totally unbelievable...

The truth is that the killings have done the opposite to what the killer wanted or wished...

for they has brought New Zealander's a closer togetherness and grown the compassion for their fellow citizens and human beings.

We won't forgive them for their stupidity, we will punish them via the legal system. But lets not invite any of the three pictured to NZ...a visit by them is the last thing we need...

Lets look at what our PM has said:

‘I can tell you one thing right now. Our gun laws will change’, right from the start Jacinda has shown what real leadership looks like.
From the moment this tragedy started, to right now, she has calmed a frightened and angry nation in a way few others could and she has shown an empathy that has led.
She has shown a grace and compassion that has helped us all weep. This is what true political leadership looks like.

In a lot of the angry debate swirling right now, please let us remember that this diseased human chose Christchurch BECAUSE NZ is a peaceful progressive multi-cultural society, this violence IS NOT a reflection of us, we were targeted because we are good.

That’s not to say there isn’t much Islamaphobia we need to stamp out, that blogs like Whaleoil with their constant Muslim Hate, David Moffett and the New Conservatives language of violence and a rise of the far right aren’t concerns, but we weren’t targeted because this is us, quite the opposite and we need to remember that as we move forward because while this atrocity must change us, it will not define us".

Palmerston Norths Festival of Cultures is now underway and these shots are from the Manawatu Standard:
and if you go to https://www.stuff.co.nz/manawatu-standard/news/111339634/palmerston-north-launches-festival-of-cultures-following-mosque-shootings you can read a wonderful report on day one: The video is fantastic... Cheers had have a safe week...

Chelsea Clinton appeared at a ChCh service, where she was confronted by two young women who confronted her on the issue..
"Many have said it was unfair to connect Chelsea’s Clintons words to the massacre in Christchurch. To them, we say that anti-Muslim bigotry must be addressed wherever it exists. This is not about left and right.

This is about people who do and do not have power, and how those with power use it. A global environment of hatred and vilification against Muslims created this killer. Spurred on by professional bigots, anti-Muslim hate now permeates our culture and politics, and everyone, as a matter of urgency, should consider the role they play in enabling it.

That includes Chelsea Clinton.
The reality is that many people aren’t doing enough to fight anti-Muslim bigotry. We need people to understand that you cannot be racist against Palestinians, and vilify people who promote their cause, while also being in solidarity with Muslims.

You cannot contribute to the anti-Muslim, anti-Black, and misogynistic abuse of Rep. Omar while also being in solidarity with Muslims.

To Chelsea Clinton: We hope that our intentions in confronting you are now clear. We believe that you still owe an apology: not only to Rep. Omar, but also to Palestinians for using your platform to defame their cause.

As an Israeli national and a Palestinian, we want you to know that it is dangerous to label valid criticisms of Israel and its lobby as anti-semitic. We know that this is a tactic to silence us and deny us our free speech.

Why did the Mayor hide from the youth of our city. Wheelers Corner 13 16th March 2019

Why did the Palmerston North Mayor hide from the protest outside of Council...and why did he tell councillors that he was 'Out of Town' when in fact he was in the council chamber while the protest was taking place...

Many of the youth protesting outside were protesting about adult hypocrisy and inaction. Was this yet again another example? you decide.

And if the mayor was out of town or tucked up in the council chamber one way or the other some one is telling fibs...

and it is and was obvious to me that it was not the youth of Palmerston North who were fibbing.

The question remains: Where was the Mayor? Was the Mayor scared of accepting a three hundred plus petition from the Youth assembled outside.

We all know as the science has proven, that greed and the absolute obvious selfish desires of the wealthy corporates and individuals have been the major drivers of continued lack of commitment to changing our climate damaging behaviour.

And in my view the biggest negative factor is GREED. Was the very same Mayor who donated $401 thousand dollars to Toyota. And spent thousands protecting a bunch of arms dealers selling the most polluting weapons to each other.

Is the Mayor just another part of the Adult uncontrolled damaging behaviour that is polluting the world in which we live, the one that the youth of the world is asking, no begging, no demanding that we clean up.

I feel really sorry for the dumb-Dumbo's who are running our world these days, they simply seem to lack the intellectual wit or skill to grasp the obvious fact that they are beyond hope...

Like the bulk of the youth who attended and took part in the march around the Square, [Twice I might add, I managed once] but more shocking than my lack of fitness...was the Mayoral lack of courage in fronting up to the future leaders of our communities. These youngsters showed clearly a way forward for our teachers and Principals who spoke out against the brave and honourable behaviour of three or four hundred youth of our region.

I felt really, really, proud to be a part of a very real and proactive movement by some youth in our city.
It has been suggested by some that the youth of today should forgive the older generation because they "new not what they did! that sounds like a very biblical excuse so that my generation can sleep tight at night.

That is just garbage and tripe, they new exactly what they were doing...Human beings have always been their own worst enemies.

I mean we have killed, murdered, slaughtered millions and millions of people since the First World War [remember the war to end all wars, yeah right] and we are still doing it...it is unfair to humanity to call Donald Trump and his elk and fellow dictators humans...but it would seem we have to, or otherwise they may bump us off...Well our youth are telling us enough is enough and they are correct, lets stop being untruthful and tell the truth we are in an era of self made extinction and we honestly need a REAL rebellion...

and the youth might just be giving us the answer to at least start, the healing and correction processes we actually need. No demand...

Will there be anyone left to vote for...will Toyota and Trump prevail and rest of us be cast into hell? That my friends is the question the youth are asking of us...and it would seem our mayors and others refuse to answer...Join next months week of action: 15th to the 19th of April 2019. Go to Extinction Rebellion Manawatu on face book and join the planners of various events.

One last plea to all thinking people Wheelers Corner special.

This received from Peter Grove: In response to an email about the student strike planned for Friday 15th March.

"Peter,
It's all very well the kids going on strike for the climate. The big question is this. Just how much do the Hoi Polloi know about Climate change? For the majority of folk it is simply two words. How much practical information has been made available to us to enable us what action we need to take. We are wedded to our cars. Has there been any moves toward car less days? Has there been any governmental action in respect of the troglodytes in the big industrial areas, to force a reduction in the burning of coal for their industrial processes.
Has the coal-mining industry been closed down? These are just a few things I can see which convince me the majority are still convinced Climate Change is a scam. I am trying to make a difference. I have had solar water heating for a number of years now.
You will recall some years ago how the Tory government put in place a rewards system for industries with carbon credits for utilising resources that were carbon neutral. I wrote to that Dick-head, Nick  Smith, describing my efforts to reduce my carbon foot print ending up with a question about where were my rewards? Answer; The rewards were for industry only and didn't apply to households, and I should be satisfied with the savings I was making with my Solar powered systems. I have given the matter a great deal of thought, What the dick-heads have done with their carbon credits scheme has been to shut out millions of home owners, who had they been included could have made a move to energy reduction in their homes. For every LED lamp installed a credit of 5 or 10 cents  each month would be arranged by way of a reduction in their monthly power bills. The take up of such a scheme would be overwhelming as people scrambled to catch the gravy train. Those of us with photo electric generation, and like me with my solar water heating, would qualify for greater rewards. Even the introduction of insulation in the homes would qualify for further rewards. What their short-sightedness in offering rewards only to industry has done, is  to shut out millions of home owners who would have gone the extra distance to qualify for the rewards. I am of an age now where I can see little sense in changing my petrol driven car. We are assured there are perhaps twelve years left before Climate Change really manifests itself. I doubt very much that should I last that twelve years that I would have much interest in changing the present status-Que.
You may recall two or three years ago, 'Bridges to nowhere. making an impassioned plea to all of us to consider changing to electric cars. Not a word about calling tenders world-wide for the supply of half a million cars to be made available to the population at discounted prices to assist in the take-up of the vehicles.
There is an opening I believe for an enterprise to open up which offers conversions of existing vehicles to electric. I would think there would be an enthusiastic response

Peter Grove

I sent this response:
Hi Peter,
I agree with you...and last night I met with twenty plus youth who are planning a protest here in PN, strange as it might sound the comments they were sharing covered you remarks in your first paragraph...they for the most part think like you do....I actually understood that these youth knew more about climate change than did most so-called adults.
The youth I met do not agree that Climate Change is a scam, hence their action...the one thing they do believe is that oldies live in a dream world these days...and for my part I’m very much in agreement with them...like you I agree we need to get off our arse and actually do some thing...these kids are doing just that...Cheers and stay warm...Peter
Peter Grove replied:
Join US as we join with the youth in making a stand for climate:
Peter,
Great work! The kids are not blind to what's going on. I hold grave doubts for my grand-children aged 22, 13 and 12. What their futures hold for them is anybodies guess. I see the teaching fraternity  climate change deniers are promising to treat the kids joining the strike as truants. Good enough for them to go on or threaten to strike. How can it be different for the kids? The kids will learn a whole lot more this coming Friday than they would with six months of school!
Peter.

Palmerston North: 9 am by round about near PNCC building in Square at 9 am Friday 15th March 2019.

principals and schools might use the opportunity to leverage on what is going on worldwide to make it a learning opportunity, Gutless Principals and teachers apply different standards for pupils...Wheelers Corner 12 9th March 2019

Read:
https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/education/111086323/school-strike-4-climate-nz-offers-kiwi-students-real-learning

Thousands of students in at least two dozen countries and nearly 30 American states plan to skip school on March 15 to hold climate change protests.
The movement began with 15-year-old Greta Thunberg, from Sweden, skipping class to sit outside government buildings because she believed her country was not following the Paris Climate Agreement.
Eames, an environment and sustainability educator, said it would be morally wrong for schools not to support children to take action against climate change.
"You can't have students protesting about absolutely everything but I think what's important to think about is how principals and schools might use the opportunity to leverage on what is going on worldwide to make it a learning opportunity," Eames said.

My view is:
"It amuses me to see the reaction of some Principals and teachers who suggest that students would be better off in class...this from the very same teachers who have been striking for better pay! Whats good for the goose is sure not good for the gander...and to think that I went out onto the streets to protest with the teachers action for better pay and conditions...I think the youth of our nation have a better understanding of the political climate of our nation that does a large hunk of our so-called leadership. Compare the enlightened thinking of our youth compared to that of Winston Peters who truly believes that anyone younger than sixty is just a kid...and when one couples that with Simon [Build no] bridges its not hard to understand just why the youth of NZ laugh at the Peter's, Bridges and China's best friend Judith Collins behaviour in regard to climate change. Oh you may not realised that all three are lawyers, maybe that's the connection for their universal stupidity.

Māori Climate Commissioner, Donna Awatere Huata, says NZ is sending hypercritical messages by telling students not to join the climate change strike March 15th.
“Why is it that we as a culture don’t mind students not going to school when it’s an overseas holiday or a victory sports parade, but seem to have a problem when students go on strike to protest catastrophic climate change?”
“I urge every student to go on strike this March 15th to protest climate change and I urge every parent to support their child in this action.”
“As adults we are failing them and their future by not radically adapting to the realities of a dangerously warming planet. Greta Thunberg sums it up perfectly when she says, “What is the point of learning facts when the most important facts given by the finest scientists are ignored by our politicians?”
“Why indeed.”

Māori Climate Commissioner

Young people around the world are showing up the hypocritical attitudes and behaviours of grown ups...Its OK to strike for better wages for teachers...by locking out students from their class rooms...but its OK to stop the very same students from striking for seeking collective and effective action from governments. to combat climate change...

I know it may sound unbelievable but we actually have some Mayors who believe that Climate change is not happening...and that is shameful no matter how you look at it.
https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/111063926/several-mayors-unsure-whether-human-activities-contribute-to-climate-change, have a read...How dumb can some so-called grown ups be...Of course the real reason why some don't want to accept 'Climate Change' via human behaviour is simply because of GREED...this greed is often clearly linked to votes or political support so that the GREED factor can continue to rule the roost.

West Coast Regional [all-male] Council
Are people such as these, why our youth have to by-pass their combined stupidity to get the important message out, about climate change. Or is it that this bunch of historical dinosaurs simply love living in the past. After all they are not exactly progressive when it comes to gender balance in regard to their council members.

So on Friday the 15th of March put on your matching shoes and assemble alongside of the round about along side the Council building in Square.
Extinction Rebellion are assisting the students in organising the strike action day commencing at 9am on Friday the 15th.

Rumour has it that the Mayor now prefers that the NZDFIA forum be held at Ohakea or somewhere else than Palmerston North in 2019... If this rumour is true and not simply an diversion then surely the upcoming council workshop should be open to the public. So that this possibility can be seriously looked at as a practical and logical answer to the possible damage to the community climate and welbeing of our peace loving city.

Does the Mayor know if the NZDFIA has approached the Defence Department or the Air Force seeking consent. Surely Council employed staff could approach the NZDFIA to seek confirmation after all their office is just across the Square, they could even visit in person. Still if I was a member of Peace Action Manawatu I'd be organising real resistance to any NZDFIA forum style event in 2019.

Like the Youth movement in regard to climate change inactivity, the Peace Movement needs to stay alert to the war mongers that are a part of our so-called treaty partners and who just love never ending wars which leads to massive sales of explosive weapons by their weapons manufacture industries.
Is New Zealand planning to send troops or other assistance to the US if they as expected attack Venezuela...after all they [US] just received a kick in the arse by North Korea and that war that the US is still in after sixty plus years...

Will Trump pardon his election campaign crook? We will see but don't be surprised, with Trump anything is possible.
