Wheelers Corner 01 19th January 2020

And this was before he started assassinating people...

"The time has come the Walrus said, to speak of many things, of birds and bees and sealing wax and cabbages and kings..." and so a new year is underway and there are many topics that need discussing. Will you become a part of the discussion? the activity that awaits? ask yourself what could be more important than the world we live in...So I strongly recommend that you become a part of rather than being simply a bystander. We need you and your ideas and assistance for the tasks ahead.

And the Wheeler's Corner blog site will attempt just that, I'm sure we will discuss many things, including cabbages and Kings...I brought half a cabbage from my local super market so as to make some coleslaw salad, half a cabbage and a few carrots combined with other items like cheese and tomato make a salad that lasts me a week or so....

So much for the cabbage, now for the Kings... or should I say one 'King' in particular...King Donald Trump...the newly proclaimed king of the USA...he is so [heavenly] into the role of king...that he now decides who will live and who will die...If you are from Iran, and you are a general, and you fail to bend at the knee at the command of wee King Donald, he will order your assassination...and a bunch of his henchmen from his military elite, will by using state funded and Israeli designed drones blow up a few locations... But King Donald is so sure of himself and that the American masses will support his murderous behaviour, that he threatens any one who opposes him and his dreams of glory with various fates worse even that death...can there be a fate worse than death?

But alas it would seem just a possibility that the American people have had enough of Trumps child like behaviour. Its bad enough that Trump can't come to grips with climate change, who can he assassinate to end the argument around climate change. I would like to assure my readers here on Wheeler's Corner I will do every thing in my power to STOP wee Donald Trump from assassinating good and honest Kiwi's and others who only want to leave a safe and livable environment for our children, grand children in the future:

This naturally leads me into the area of self education and practical activist behaviour to achieve the change required to ensure the protection of our fellow human beings.

Here in the Palmerston North Library on the 30th oj Jan 2020 at 7pm: Is a public workshop:

HEADING FOR EXTINCTION WORKSHOP 30th Jan 7pm at the Library. This is a new
version of the famous ‘talk’ and has workshop elements.

Extinction Rebellion Manawatu is in the process of reaching out to other community groups so as to enable a combined effort to get some proactive reaction from our local government representives, and our major political parties to actually stand up and be counted in regard to climate change.

I would love to see a full house for the library meeting on the 30th of Jan 2020 at 7pm. We look forward to seeing which Councillors [City and Regional] turn up, and informing the public who did and did not turn up...You see the election is now over, now is the time for behaviour change, I'm sure the public believes that is the case...the honeymoon is over...lets see you earn your salary and perks.
Greta Thunberg [Centre] the young Swedish activist Trump would like to Drone.

Swedish teen climate activist Greta Thunberg joined thousands of protesters on the streets of Lausanne, Switzerland Friday ahead a summit for the world's business and political leaders in Davos that kicks off Tuesday.
Thunberg, whose solo protests outside the Swedish Parliament in 2018 sparked the global Fridays for Future movement, is among a group of young climate activists who are expected to attend the annual World Economic Forum event, which will focus on "stakeholders for a cohesive and sustainable world."
The youth activists are planning to attend the Davos summit to demand that "participants from all companies, banks, institutions, and governments immediately halt all investments in fossil fuel exploration and extraction, immediately end all fossil fuel subsidies, and immediately and completely divest from fossil fuels."
Those demands were published in the Guardian last week on the same day that global climate groups launched the "Stop the Money Pipeline" campaign to pressure banks, insurers, and asset managers to cut ties with planet-destroying companies. Thunberg echoed those sentiments in her address to the crowd in Lausanne.
"We are now in a new year, and we have entered a new decade, and so far, during this decade, we have seen no signs whatsoever that real climate action is coming—and that has to change," the 17-year-old said. "For well over a year, young people from all across the globe have been school-striking for their right to a future every Friday."

I published a wheelers Corner blog before Christmas covering the subject of what it means to be Christian:
https://wheelerscornernz.blogspot.com/2019/12/wheelers-corner-92-25th-december-2019.html

When I saw this message [left] on my face book page I thought it was well worth sharing with you all. Because it says it all about what being a humanist means, for me anyway...the message is clear, we should not kill the message bringer, we should listen to the real message and consider what they have to say...

So come along to the workshop / meeting on the 30th of Jan at 7 pm at the PNCC public Library and share with us all, maybe we will all be surprised at how close our views are
Lastly here is a song from Joan Baez, its a about Donald Trump and it worth a listen: It is wonderful how a song can tell the truth about a persons personality etc:

Have a great week and be kind to each other...I hope you are all fit and well after your Christmas and New Year break...

Peter,

I really believe Climate Change is already upon us.There has been a lot of empty talk from the politicians about the subject but absolutely NO ACTION!

Our policy to be carbon free has the year 2030 as its target. By that time we are all likely to have been roasted alive. Big money is being scheduled for more motorway construction. There have been weak signals suggesting more train travel. Last year came the announcement the NZR was contemplating doing away with the present Electric Haulage on the Main Trunk, and replacing the existing electric loos with Diesel. OK the electrification was the Brainchild of Piggy Muldoon. He lost the election to Helen Clark, more than twenty years ago. Those electric locos have been in service for nearly the length of time I believe they have given very good service. What on earth is wrong with replacing like with like? I believe that the rail freight service which stopped very short of the final destinations, Frankton and Palmerston North, did nothing for speedy delivery of freight to its final destinations which proved to be an incentive for road transport to deliver direct between sender and recipient without needless delay. The cream on the pudding came with the suggestion from NZR the overhead electrical reticulation on the Main Trunk was also to be dismantled. We as a country are firmly in the grip of the Brain Dead. You will also recall the former MP for Remutaka, who retired to a cosy job with GWRC, proposed as about the only proposition he had ever made the GWRC should do away with the electric trolley buses in Wellington, as well as the overhead reticulation. The existing Trolleys gave excellent service they were quiet, and comfortable. Again, what on earth is wrong with replacing like with like?

The recent carnage in Australia Is a real wake-up about the onset of Global Warming. It also spoke volumes about the Australian policies of not clearing residential properties of trees. Eucalypts are likely to be the worst possible trees in the event of a fire, they are full of oils and resins which burn with a vengeance. In a week or so after the fires may be finally extinguished, the stupid things will be sprouting new shoots to fuel future bushfires, and so the cycle will repeat itself. I notice SCO MO is extolling the virtues of massive exports of coal to countries like China and India. How is that going to help them reduce the size of their carbon footprint? How has this country managed to curb the use of motor vehicles? A trip from Wellington to Lower Hutt in the later afternoons see the Hutt Road jam-packed with vehicles, almost bumper to bumper all jostling to get ahead! The commuter rail service right alongside, shows trains with commuters nowhere near the capacity of the trains. Every train station in the valley has huge commuter parking spaces for those using the trains. I worked in Wellington for around twenty years. I walked every morning. to the station about half a mile, and home again every night. It did wonders for my fitness levels. The journey was about 20 minutes in duration. Those people still commuting by car have inordinate difficulty in parking, and have to walk quite some distance to the city.

OK this is a real rant, But I believe we have been let down by brain-dead politicians by their inability to come to terms with the onset of Climate Change and by allowing an absolute dearth of information about ways we can contribute to its reduction.
