Thousands of students in at least two dozen countries and nearly 30 American states plan to skip school on March 15 to hold climate change protests.
The movement began with 15-year-old Greta Thunberg, from Sweden, skipping class to sit outside government buildings because she believed her country was not following the Paris Climate Agreement.
Eames, an environment and sustainability educator, said it would be morally wrong for schools not to support children to take action against climate change.
"You can't have students protesting about absolutely everything but I think what's important to think about is how principals and schools might use the opportunity to leverage on what is going on worldwide to make it a learning opportunity," Eames said.

My view is:
"It amuses me to see the reaction of some Principals and teachers who suggest that students would be better off in class...this from the very same teachers who have been striking for better pay! Whats good for the goose is sure not good for the gander...and to think that I went out onto the streets to protest with the teachers action for better pay and conditions...I think the youth of our nation have a better understanding of the political climate of our nation that does a large hunk of our so-called leadership. Compare the enlightened thinking of our youth compared to that of Winston Peters who truly believes that anyone younger than sixty is just a kid...and when one couples that with Simon [Build no] bridges its not hard to understand just why the youth of NZ laugh at the Peter's, Bridges and China's best friend Judith Collins behaviour in regard to climate change. Oh you may not realised that all three are lawyers, maybe that's the connection for their universal stupidity.

Māori Climate Commissioner, Donna Awatere Huata, says NZ is sending hypercritical messages by telling students not to join the climate change strike March 15th.
“Why is it that we as a culture don’t mind students not going to school when it’s an overseas holiday or a victory sports parade, but seem to have a problem when students go on strike to protest catastrophic climate change?”
“I urge every student to go on strike this March 15th to protest climate change and I urge every parent to support their child in this action.”
“As adults we are failing them and their future by not radically adapting to the realities of a dangerously warming planet. Greta Thunberg sums it up perfectly when she says, “What is the point of learning facts when the most important facts given by the finest scientists are ignored by our politicians?”
“Why indeed.”

Young people around the world are showing up the hypocritical attitudes and behaviours of grown ups...Its OK to strike for better wages for teachers...by locking out students from their class rooms...but its OK to stop the very same students from striking for seeking collective and effective action from governments. to combat climate change...

I know it may sound unbelievable but we actually have some Mayors who believe that Climate change is not happening...and that is shameful no matter how you look at it.
https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/111063926/several-mayors-unsure-whether-human-activities-contribute-to-climate-change, have a read...How dumb can some so-called grown ups be...Of course the real reason why some don't want to accept 'Climate Change' via human behaviour is simply because of GREED...this greed is often clearly linked to votes or political support so that the GREED factor can continue to rule the roost.

West Coast Regional [all-male] Council
Are people such as these, why our youth have to by-pass their combined stupidity to get the important message out, about climate change. Or is it that this bunch of historical dinosaurs simply love living in the past. After all they are not exactly progressive when it comes to gender balance in regard to their council members.

So on Friday the 15th of March put on your matching shoes and assemble alongside of the round about along side the Council building in Square.
Extinction Rebellion are assisting the students in organising the strike action day commencing at 9am on Friday the 15th.

Rumour has it that the Mayor now prefers that the NZDFIA forum be held at Ohakea or somewhere else than Palmerston North in 2019... If this rumour is true and not simply an diversion then surely the upcoming council workshop should be open to the public. So that this possibility can be seriously looked at as a practical and logical answer to the possible damage to the community climate and welbeing of our peace loving city.

Does the Mayor know if the NZDFIA has approached the Defence Department or the Air Force seeking consent. Surely Council employed staff could approach the NZDFIA to seek confirmation after all their office is just across the Square, they could even visit in person. Still if I was a member of Peace Action Manawatu I'd be organising real resistance to any NZDFIA forum style event in 2019.

Like the Youth movement in regard to climate change inactivity, the Peace Movement needs to stay alert to the war mongers that are a part of our so-called treaty partners and who just love never ending wars which leads to massive sales of explosive weapons by their weapons manufacture industries.
Is New Zealand planning to send troops or other assistance to the US if they as expected attack Venezuela...after all they [US] just received a kick in the arse by North Korea and that war that the US is still in after sixty plus years...

Will Trump pardon his election campaign crook? We will see but don't be surprised, with Trump anything is possible.
